Dungeon Jump: An Arcade Inspired-Game
For my experimental design assignment focused on one-point user interactions, I built Dungeon Jump around a simple one-click mechanic, where players use a single click to make their character jump. I organized character parts into customizable options like heads, bodies, and legs so players could create their own unique avatar. I illustrated each outfit using digital squares arranged in a grid, then imported them into the game along with other elements like the spooky font and background. The game features a straightforward menu system where you can customize your character, play, pause, and restart.
I added smooth jumping with gravity and extra jump control, plus randomly spawning obstacles that get harder over time. The UI and sound effects help keep the experience fun and immersive. I even included some old-school screen flickers to really tie everything together.
Inspiration and Initial Idea
Here’s the first page of my project proposal for what eventually became Dungeon Jump, which includes my original inspiration and thoughts.
A super simple excuse to procrastinate turned into a way more fun distraction that actually stopped me from procrastinating.
Thanks, Google dinosaur game, for all those hours of “productive” entertainment.
